STOTT PILATES® The Knee: Stability & Function

The knee is a complex structure that can experience any number of injuries or conditions that interrupt normal functioning. This lecture and demo explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the knee, some of the dysfunctions that can occur and exercise progressions to restore normal movements. After looking at the available movements and functioning of the knee, common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns are addressed. Exercise progressions to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning are presented. Designed to prepare the body for specific activities and enhance performance, these exercises can challenge and promote optimal functioning.

This hands-on workshop outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Review ideal posture as well as specific deviations found in flat back, sway back and kyphosis-lordosis posture types. Discover how muscle imbalances typically manifest in static posture and practice conducting postural analysis. Finally, explore common Pilates exercise choices and modifications to accommodate these imbalances and work toward restoring adequate length and strength in the musculature over time.

Intermediate Reformer on the V2Max Plus™ Reformer

Explore the advantage of varible angles of resistance to facilitate and expand the existing STOTT PILATES® Intermediate Reformer repertoire. Designed for those already familiar with performing and teaching these exercises, this interactive workshop will delve into the possibilities afforded by the V2 Max Plus™ Reformer’s adjustable pulley system and extensor straps. Discover how to challenge core strength and stability while achieving increased range of motion in exercise modifications and new variations designed to develop balance, propriceptively stimulate the neuromuscular system, and provide support.
