Pilates is a series of 500 resistance exercises performed on specifically designed equipment. With its emphasis on core strength and precise form, pilates teaches you to use your body more efficiently. Other fitness programs take a “body parts” approach to conditioning. In contrast, pilates strengthens the deep architectural muscles of the body’s center (the abdominals, back, and buttocks) in order to develop the strength needed to support and realign the spine. Pilates exercises are designed to develop strength and flexibility simultaneously. The result is a balanced body that is less prone to injury. Regular practice of pilates exercises dramatically improves strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and posture.
